So this is a couple days overdue, but I wanted to make sure I had permission for the pictures!
Our celebration of International Sex Workers Rights Day was an absolute success! We had about 35 people in attendance, raised over $200, and met some really great people. We owe a lot of thanks to Cucci for donating their time and toys, the Echo Park Film Center for being our gracious hosts, Sex With Timaree for sponsoring our publicity, and the Pleasure Chest for providing gift bags to our models and as raffle prizes. These are great organizations, and their support means a lot to us.
The night kicked off with our sex toy fashion show! Hugely popular, our 5 models strutted down the runway and demonstrated some of our favorite toys. Mariko had a sub in tow to pleasure her. The darling Hal Jordan, looking dapper in his 3-piece suit, showed the men the basics of a masturbation sleeve. We also had glass spades, a Hitachi magic wand, more lube, more toys, and more fun sexy times.
We then showed a variety of films giving our audience an introduction to sex work and the sex workers rights movement (still trying to figure out how to make all those videos available as a public playlist… bear with me!). We started with a general introduction to sex workers, including I Am A Sex Worker by the first graduating class of the Speak Up! Training for Empowered Sex Workers and the hilarious “Sorry Your Grandma Was Mugged, I Was Busy Arresting A Hooker!” by Scarlot Harlot. We then moved into a segment on the anti-trafficking movement, showing both the absurdity of some groups’ logic and an fervent argument to stop excluding sex workers from the conversation via Red Light Chicago. Then was the story of the Green River Killer and how that led to International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers and an update on the movement for sex workers rights today.
SWOP-LA also raffled off 4 giftbags identical to what our models received with gift certificates to the Pleasure Chest, pocket rocket vibrators, and bottles of lube. Our lucky winners were extremely pleased and excited to get home
